Effective Tools - Seat Wrench and Nozzle Wrench
The modern trend in fire hydrants is to furnish a lightweight T wrench, which twists
the fire hydrant stems in order to remove the seat ring. These wrenches are largly
ineffective due to the effects of electrolysis and accelerated rust. The T wrench
can even damage good parts. The large 6" threads on a seat ring are difficult enough
to break even with a good wrench, but twisting a small 1 1/4" stem and expecting
it to uncouple the seat ring is mostly wishful thinking. We manufacture a simple
socket seat wrench that attatches to the seat ring and will not apply torque to
the hydrant stem.
